CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Between 51% and 89% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Regulation

FOREX.com (founded 1999) vs Questrade (founded 2000): FOREX.com is publicly traded, while Questrade is privately held; neither is a bank. In regulation, FOREX.com holds seven Tier-1 licenses (highly trusted by ForexBrokers.com) and two Tier-2 licenses (trusted), compared with Questrade’s one Tier-1 and zero Tier-2 licenses.

Fees

When it comes to commissions and fees, FOREX.com comes out ahead of Questrade for most traders. FOREX.com earns 4.5 out of 5 stars and is ranked #15 out of 36 by ForexBrokers.com in this category. Its pricing depends on the account type: the Standard account is simpler but usually has wider spreads, while the RAW account uses commission-based pricing with tighter spreads, which can be better for active traders. In the U.S., the Standard account’s EUR/USD spread averaged about 1.4 pips, while the RAW account’s typical spread was much lower at around 0.13 pips, plus commission. For many U.S. traders, the overall cost ends up being similar unless monthly trading volume is very high.

Questrade, by comparison, earns 3.5 out of 5 stars and is ranked #34 out of 36. It uses spread-based pricing, so the cost is built into the difference between the buy and sell price rather than charged as a separate commission for forex. Questrade says spreads can be as low as 0.8 pips, but typical major-pair spreads were closer to 2.1 to 2.5 pips in review, which can make trades more expensive. For CFDs, Questrade adds a spread plus a $9.95 USD trading fee per unit, which can quickly push total costs higher.

In simple terms, FOREX.com is usually the better pick if you want more competitive pricing and clearer options for active trading, especially with its RAW account. Questrade is easier to understand at first glance because the cost is mainly in the spread, but that spread can be wider than many competitors, and its CFD fees can add up fast. If keeping trading costs low is a priority, FOREX.com is generally the stronger choice between the two.
